The lockring holds your Center Lock rotor on the hub. Swapping the standard steel ring for this S-Parts titanium version saves a little weight, will not rust, and adds a flash of colour in the middle of the rotor. The colours come from vacuum nitriding and anodising, so the finish is part of the surface rather than a paint layer.

Center Lock lockrings come in two styles. The external type has no internal splines and is tightened with an external-spline tool, while the internal type has internal splines and is tightened with a cassette-style tool.
